This morning we had a lazy lie-in, with our dive scheduled for this afternoon. The instructors decided to split our two remaining dives over two days, giving us a chance to practise and review some skills today in a sheltered bay which was not such a spectacular dive site but was calm and safe for learning. Then our final dive will be tomorrow and it won't matter if it is not so calm because we are just going to be looking around anyway. We spent a good portion of the morning playing my Christmas present card game, Exploding Kittens, which was really fun. Then plenty of time for lunch and getting ourselves organised for diving.
The staff and local people here are so friendly and enthusiastic, even on the dive boat the instructors and boat captain laugh and joke and shout out to nearby boats and just have a jolly old time, all the time.
The dive today was much more settled and generally positive and a good chance to bed in some of our new skills and feel secure and confident in ourselves. I think we are all looking forward to tomorrow's dive more now. Katriel and I even managed, with the help of our instructor's sharp eye, to "find Nemo" amongst the anemone. Removing and replacing weight belts and scuba kit at the surface of deep water was challenging, but much more manageable in the calmer conditions, and we also had to remove and replace our mask underwater.
Tonight was Fijian night at the restaurant, with spectacular Fijian buffet complete with spit-roasted pig, followed by Fijian singing and dancing by a talented group of performers. Caelan and I are wondering how to get some of them to move to Selwyn to join the choir!
Over dinner we also got in the haiku mood, some deeper than others 🙂
(For clarity, Fat Amy is the nickname we gave to the apparent leader of the Hedonistic Holidays gang of cool girls- on the ferry she had mentioned possibly going diving on Jan 3rd, hangover allowing, although she did mention that breathing scuba air is good for a hangover!!?!)
Katriel
Absolutely cool
Diving was awesomely cool
No cool turtles seen
No chocolate mousse left
I am so disappointed
Hope they bring some more
Alyssa
Six metres today
Hope Fat Amy doesn't come
Next time, she's painful
Caelan
Fiji holiday
I did not write this haiku
I like lots of naps
Peter
No cares in the world
Laughing with my family
This is paradise
Linley
Open water three
No-one died today either
Let's keep that up guys

ReplyDeleteFiji sounds awesome
Diving down to see Nemo
What a thing to do!

DeleteNo unfortunately we haven't been able to take the camera down with us yet, too much to think about and tricky with skills practice. Hoping we or the instructor can take it tomorrow for photographic or video evidence!
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible holiday. Too funny 8 was going to buy exploding kittens for Christmas then didn't might have to re consider xx
